Poor Lyron, he seems so exhausted. Do Jotun have a power source that they need to consume to keep going, or do they regenerate energy somehow?

  2. RozBot Says:

“Damnit, MA! Anod’er one of dem daggun ROBOTS got in da house again an sat on yer favorite table! Get da shotgun!”

And on a more serious note: Ewww….sand in the joints. D: Poor ol’ Lyron

    To schmedder:
Mashine people have a power source like a battery or generator. I say “like” because the cores aren’t built by anyone and cant be replaced, although the cores attempt to recoup energy via their own internal mechanisms. They don’t sleep, but if a Mashine person remains stationary for a few hours (or meditates) they recharge up to full and in theory could keep moving indefinitely. Strenuous actions like running, flying, or building do drain the energy supply so Jotun cannot build or fly constantly. Mashine people can regain full energy capacity by absorbing electricity or solar radiation in addition to meditation, whichever they find first.

Mashina can operate 96 hours before resting.

Guardia gain the benefits that the males do after they’ve been transformed. But because Guardia mostly still come from human roots, most choose to sleep as they did in their former lives.

  4. Jaylaw Says:

How can meditating recharge a battery..?

They can eat, too, right? I mean, the Guardia do/can. Otherwise, that’s an awful lot of standing (or lying) around in the sun, charging up! You can’t get energy out without putting *something* in…

*falls in* Lyron:….OK, TELL me I haven’t squished anyone!

  6. Edenworld Saga Says:

I got this idea from a game called “Xenogears.” In the game you controlled mecha that had a finite power source, I.E. every action they took in combat burned up a set % of energy. But by spending a round of inactivity they could also recharge a set percentage of energy.

All RPG fantasy aside, I figure that this meant that technology had reached the point where mechas came standard with some sort of energy replacement system so they wouldn’t die in the middle of combat. As this applies to Jotun: Their cores probably come with some sort of function that kicks in whenever energy usage falls below a certain point. The act of “meditation” is just a nice way of saying a mecha needs to sit on his ass for 4 hours to power through the next 96 hours.

But you’re right. It isn’t very realistic for a battery to recharge on simple “meditation” alone, which means there IS an unknown factor. Our ideas of energy and energy storage come from what we know from our current technology and it’s not known what future energy sources and capabilities will be developed.

On a more realistic note, because Mashina constantly absorb water and metal elements (but don’t eat), the official power source is probably more like a fuel cell with some unknown attachments. To my knowledge the fuel cell is the only self regenerating power source we currently have.

  7. Schmedderling Says:

*nods* Cool. So basically a Mashina can recharge however they want. ^_^ Thanks for the explanation!

True, Edenworld is operating with a higher level of tech than we currently have… Basically anything is possible and could later be explained by sience then!

    To Schmedder:

I got to thinking… I don’t think many Mashina really understand their own bodies completely.

Even Lyron’s geek brother Terratio (who’s an energy hog) knows he bleeds “liquids” and knows how much energy he has at all times, but probably doesn’t really understand physically how everything inside him makes sense. He could never build himself because he couldn’t replicate his own soul or power source.

Perhaps that’s part of the mystique of being a living creature.

  9. Schmedderling Says:

*nod* There just isn’t time or energy for scientific persuits with the dragons and Norns trying to extermiinate them. I have to admit, it doesn’t seem like finding out how they work is a high priority either, I don’t think Terratio’d know where to start.

Even if he figured out how to rebuild himself, all he’d have is a drone at most. Knowing only part of how Mashina work is part of what makes them so interesting. There’s a sense of mystery there.

  10. Jaylaw Says:

[Mashina constantly absorb water and metal elements (but don’t eat)]

Cheska ate. Her stomach rumbled, too. And she’s a Guardia (or was, poor thing)

What’s the purpose behind having a mouth as a mecha if you don’t eat..?

    (Aside from kissing Panchun!!!)

    ^-^

  11. Edenworld Saga Says:

Cheska is unaware of her true nature aside from the height change. The eating thing is largely a hold over from being human and is sometimes necessary for Guardia (who are the lesser evolved machine). Taking in food for the Guardia increases body mass ratio and it doesn’t matter what is consumed (though Cheska didn’t know this). The total body mass of a Guardia in human form will determine how big she is in mech form and how much ammo she has. Expending ammo and losing armour affects the human mode adversely. Basically, if you fire too many rockets, you lose weight fast enough to hurt yourself. So fighting Guardia must eat on top of what they absorb generally to gain battle advantage.
Guardia aware of their nature typically eat after a battle but can survive indefinitely without it. Anything consumed is reconstituted into a part of the body.
Lyron’s case is very different and anything Lyron consumes is utterly destroyed (but more on that later!).
I think the idea behind having a mouth is largely a Japanese phenomenon. Perhaps a more humanoid face makes you a better avatar if you happen to be piloted by a hero who’s human. Like God who made man in his “own image”. But having a mouth is not necessary because the mecha can communicate without mouths and empathetically as well. I guess I’m influenced to heavily by Japanese anime and games. If it helps, most Machina don’t have mouths. And those without mouths nuzzle like the Eskimos do rather then kiss.
