Notes: I showed this page prematurely to Rozbot and she died laughing. I asked her what was so funny and she told me “Omg It’s Card Crusher!”. I was vuague on the details of who or what that was so I visited encyclopedia dramatica and what I found was oddly hilarious. here is a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LauaI21uFgY
The big deal is that the japanese guy in the video crushes a buissness card, and that is one of the HUGEST insults you could give to anouther japanese person (if he gives you the card thats crushed). In this case the buissness card is a bullet.. and lyron does the pose. Anyway this page was coincidental.
If you guys didnt know, he caught the bullet- hes tired of being of being shot.
Was lyron holding back a bit, it seems from the previous panels to now, now it seems like he is going to get down to business.
Lyron doesn’t really mean to kill anyone intelligent, so he’s practiced at holding back. Though with the shots to the chest and face he was kind of riled up there.
xD To be honest, you don’t even need to know that it’s Card Crusher, Lyron’s expression and the whole catching the bullet thing are funny enough. I think Lyron’s tolerance for Jet shooting him just got used up.
(Jet looks absolutely adorable when surprised. *girly squee*)
Oh, and uhm, I forgot to ask in the previous post, but I’ve got a question to any readers and to Ratbat. I’ve been looking for any good mecha webcomics or anime that don’t have anything to do with Transformers, and I can’t find any. If you know of any other than Aquapunk n’ Gurren Lagann, could you link me please? I’m trying to expand my nerdiness to more obviously cover multiple types of robots. >_>’
When the ratio of other mecha to transformes in your room reaches 2 to 30+ you kinda decide to do something about it.
“Hey Jet, you want this ammo so you can shoot me in the face?”
“Really? That’s not like you, Lyron… sure I’ll have it.”

schmedder: good + mecha + webcomic? Not much of a chance in North America sadly, and this is not saying that we are “the best” but that there simply isn’t the audience here that there is in the Asian countries. When I was drumming up cross-linking candidates the first theme on my list was robots and mecha stuff. What I discovered is that Westerners largely use robots as a joke-gimmick and at best these robots look like 1950’s tin toys. If you don’t find this, then what you get instead is a farce where someone has taken several photos of their models and toys and tried to come up with a joke or two to place in text bubbles. In my opinion these examples hardly qualify as “good” but that’s just my opinion. But maybe I haven’t been looking hard enough? I cannot speak for Pilot but I know that EW began over a decade ago in part because I wanted to build a better sentient robot drama that I wasn’t getting from anime at the time. I had no clue of the existence of Aquapunk until just recently however, so maybe this is a good sign? Maybe people are tired of the failings and cop-outs of major cartoon studios or perhaps there is great inspiration these days?
As for mech animes (it’s hard to find a good ‘new’ one), In my opinion there’s way too much similarity between the shows as the studios continue to water-down and pander to every audience they can. I can probably recommend, Zone of the Enders: Dolores I, Escaflowne, Detonator Orgun, Mazinkaiser, Macross plus, Brigadoon, Osamu Tezuka’s Metropolis, Robot Carnival, Gear fighter Dendoh (if you can find it), and I’ve been told that the original Gunbuster is really epic. Most of these shows you might have to rent because they are old, but it’s a solid place to start.
That is by far the best expression on Lyron’s face for that scene EVER. This is one of my favorite pages.

I think I might try Escaflowne once I’m done (or get tired of) getting through all of the bleach episodes. I have the feeling I’ve seen an episode or two but can’t for the life of me remember what happened in them. My sister just watched a Macross series that she enjoyed, so I might ask her what it was…

TTATT I remember checking out the site after following a link from Livejournal when I was a stupid kid and going “This is not Ratbat’s (naughty) Megaman X fanart!” then ignoring this site for the next few years until I grew up, went looking for her awesome artwork again and released she was…deleted off LJ? (*Insert uncontrollable sobbing here*)

I draw, but mecha/robots/stuff like that aren’t my strong suit. I mostly draw animals, some mythical stuff, and people.
I’m a moderate mech fan, mostly into Transformers, somewhat into Gundam. Never seen much else (except Evangelion, Zoids and Gurren Lagaan). What made me a fan Edenworld Saga was the quality of the pictures (I admire you art skills), the characters and the story as a whole.
