Notes; this is pretty much the standard of nudity I’ll be illustrating in EWS from now on. No offending pieces just silhouettes.
The big guy with the 6 eyes was inspired from parts of the “Armored Core” series. Some stock parts looked cool so I added my own spin around some of those forms. The Lab tech guy talking is the same guy from the previous book. I didn’t give his design much thought, so he looks kinda like all the rest of my made-up peoples.

LOL I love the “mmm pretty” there in the 2nd panel, that’s nice.
nothing says creeper like a giant grabby robot with 6 eyes. but don’t fear ladies, he’s probably just a cuddler.
but in all seriousness. i do like the mecha in the first panel, just the way you drew him looks cool.
I thought that Mashinas do not understand beauty, before they have found mate.
should they already have enough experience to know what happens, when women wake up in that situation.
It is like they are trying to frighten them.
Do the women even understand what the mashinas are talking about?
And now we shall commence with the screaming and the scratching and the running and the oh-for-the-love-of-sigh-someone-go-get-the-sedatives.
Good luck, girl.
If a robot of that size came toward me and mumbles “Mmmm, pretty.” Expect the same reaction but with swearing and throwing things.
I like how the girl is portrayed as the athletic of the two. The way I see it, the girl with the scar on her rib is the stronger while the one with freckles is weaker. I don’t know why I got that impression.
Yeah, that “mm, pretty” panel made me laugh, even though I feel bad for the girl. Hopefully it won’t turn out badly for her and her friend in the end.
And hopefully that lab tech mech realizes how lucky he is to not get a foot in the face.
Sandraman: That one robot guy is there because the wet blonde is his confirmed mate choice. She’s sick however, full of cancer from prolonged radiation in the desert, the big robot is reacting to her APHEL. He knows her name because he’s been concentrating on her for a while and likes her. Mashina use the girls’ original language to communicate with them, so the girls understand, but the sight of Mashina supersedes rational thought right now.
I just was not sure because I dont understand what the woman says.
“Nodu machba ba mashina da”
While their is.
so I thougt that they speaks different languages at the moment.
And he got to know her name, only by examining her APHEL?
Moreover, what happens if they catch a pregnant woman?
What if the child born is a boy? Or if the woman they catch has small children with her?
Do they leave the boys there or do they pass them to other humans or some sargons?
(The boy children. Obviously girls will be taken to sky texas)
I recall asking Ratbat this sort of question myself. As I understand it, the conversion process kills babies. So any pregnant woman carrying a baby girl is allowed to carry it to term, and is converted once the child is born. If the baby is male, then the woman is converted regardless, and bye bye baby. Traditional Machina (G1) are somewhat cold, logical and proud. They have little tolerance of males from other species, male humans especially. I assume male children, like male adults, would be left to take their chances after such raids for womenfolk. One or two Machina might radio a nearby settlement as a ‘noble’ gesture…
It says in the glossary that by interacting sexually with their Guardia, the Machina gain insight into that woman’s history, her emotions and her perspective on life and so on. In the process, they themselves become more humane; this is part of their personal evolution. As to what the Machina do with female babies and young children, presumably we shall find out in this particular comic, since Lyron rescued a female baby from the Devils.
But what do the general population make of those Machina who have evolved by pairing… and who are now emotive, intuitive, able to comprehend a joke… different? If the average Machina prefers a logical ‘perfect order’ would this not put others off the idea of acquiring a Guardia mate? Especially if – horrors! – such a pairing might result in their attaining qualities comparable to human males!
Perhaps the Machina have the luxury of a choice, assuming a mech could ‘warp-digivolve’ a human child or baby into an adult Guardia. The resulting female would be unlikely to have fully developed emotions, to say nothing of having no life experiences outside the confines of ‘Sky Texas’ … much like Rendivi, perhaps. In this way the mech could satisfy his urges, and father True Mashina (G2), without being changed too much psychologically.
Ratbat: So he’s reacting to the Aphel and is converting her now so the cancer doesn’t take her? Is that why he’s being a tad forward?
I’m confused as to why he would choose her after only sensing her aphel and know nothing about her (although her probably learned something from concentration on her aphel). I guess it seems “logical” to him and that’s why he’s doing this.
Jaylaw: I had forgotten about the baby until now. xD
I think I remember Ratbat mentioning that they’d convert the baby into a proto-Gaurdia and that since proto-Gaurdia can still age they’d let her grow up before a Machina would choose her. You do raise a really good point of why a Machina would choose a Gaurdia if he preferred the Machina way of thinking.
Didn’t Ratbat also say that a proto-Guardia could only survive a short while, then would die unless paired off..? Mind you, a ‘short while’ might easily be 10 – 20 years or so, given the life span of an average Machina!
This is all me having fun guessing; Earlier the comic did make reference to not alarming ‘the females’ … so perhaps a harem exists. This would make sense; somewhere for babies, children and teenagers to mature into adult women, for recently acquired captives to settle down and settle in… get an education (promoting Machina in a good light, naturally). Then the Machina get to chose their ideal wife… not exactly equality, but civilised, anyway.
But Mr Six-Eyes… seems not all Machina are as civilised as others. He’s able to get a look at the arrivals before anyone else. He’s probably looking forward to getting his oats with a spirited female. Perhaps he thinks she owes him, because of the cancer thing. But have no fear. Once paired, he’s going to get the ride of his life, alright. Ever see “What Women Want”?
He’s going to see her side of the coin whether he likes it or not. Everything that makes her who and what she is – her history, her perceptions, her emotions and ideals, including what she thinks of him. And if that doesn’t kick him out of being a chavanist, nothing will! o_~
She of course, will get access to his science, his history and suchforth. By the end of the Saga, he’ll be a more kindly and attentive husband, I suspect. She’ll have more intel on the ways of the world, her old fears allayed. And both she and he will share new concerns for Machina and mankind alike. Presumably this sort of relationship is the future the Gods intended. ^-^
Sandraman: (I haven’t been at my computer the whole weekend) The words that the nomadic humans speak is just nomadic gibberish. In this word, humans aren’t on the same level as Mashina and Sargons due to centuries of hunting and war. Aphel is a type of physical/empathic sense that the machine people have because they don’t have magic as some theorized. If a machine person concentrates on the mind of another creature for long enough, he can get general information like physical status, age, name, current emotional state even if the other creature is not a machine. If the other creature is a Mashina/Guardia, they can get specific information and transmit it back and forth wirelessly or physically.
I can see why people have a lot of questions about this now. I intentionally left some of this information out when I wrote the glossary because I didn’t think people wanted to know the ‘specifics” les be offended.
Pregnant women: Mashina will only use “coedons” on a woman if the child is female. Mashina are quite possessive and only have value for female humans. Coedons are safe to use because they are nanomachines without any origin DNA on them. You can use them on plants, animals, fish, even the water supply to macro-size them. However, without origin codes, these nanomachines don’t turn creatures into mecha. With such a disdain towards human males, the mother is kept safe until the child is born. Then the boy child is given to the Sargon werepeople (who are actually perfectly OK with co-existing with humans they can teach). In this case, the male half of humanity is continuing through the Sargon people while the female half of humanity continues through the Mashina.
Jaylaw: LOL people keep asking me stuff that Holy hasn’t revealed yet in the comic itself. Mashina can’t artificially age anyone. Even if you do get turned into a mecha, you still gotta grow up just like everyone else. Wisdom is basically the only thing you can’t inherit.
Mashina have a choice whether or not they want to make a Guardia and reach their next evolution step. The Mashina were always meant to learn emotions but it’s taken thousands of years to change their behaviours and thought patterns. A lot of Mashina are perpetually bored and restless because of a long life where only so much knowledge is open to them. The thought of gaining a new perspective and becoming a dad is infinitely exciting and many are willing to give up autonomy to experience what its like to be a normal creature. Mashina that don’t want this can choose to find enlightenment some other way (like Holy Gear and Beowulf) but its not as easy. Those that don’t choose someone are a minority and reserve their thoughts to themselves as far as a brother acting too illogical is concerned.
Schmedderling: He’s reacting to her aphel and he’s gunna (ahem..) jump her and turn her into a mecha so her cancer doesn’t kill her yes. Mashina make their choice almost instantly when they find someone who’s a good match Aphel-wise. The whole process is rather strange to humans and Sargons (who do traditional things like dating etc.)
Jaylaw: Proto-Guardia live as long as they would as a human. (which is the blink of an eye for a Mashina) anyone prepped with Coedons is a normal representative of their original species except for being Colossal. The blonde on this page is sick and she will die at a young age if someone doesn’t turn her into a Guardia. Part of the harem you guessed about is called “The Ranch” where all proto-Guardia who are ill-tempered or uncooperative go. Otherwise girls get free reign to do what they want.
Again, Mashina don’t really see themselves as being on the same level as humans, its not that they are chauvinistic, its just that they don’t consider humans “enlightened” until they become Guardia. Some males are very patient, others are not and will do what they want to do because they can. Its like how the Greek Gods would come down and complicate the mortals lives by making them pregnant or cursing them or gifting them.
The caviate to this is that Jotuns are way more socialised to Norns and are less likely to act on their views of the fundamental differences between them and others.
Once (Mr. 6 eyes) tames his lady, he’ll be answering to her wishes just the same. The whole process will change that guy for the better.
So rape and ask for forgiveness later?
What if the woman is really unforgiving type?
how would that effect to the mashina that she is mate with?
if a woman who has a baby is turned to a Proto-guardia how may she nurse the baby?
i mean do the child turn big as well or do they wait till the kid do not need milk anymore.
“So rape and ask for forgiveness later?
What if the woman is really unforgiving type?
how would that effect to the mashina that she is mate with?”
I’m pretty sure that this is the point where Mr. 6 Eyes learns the meaning of “tough love” with him giving da love and her giving da tough… and da fist… and da foot…
And da club/bat/big stick… and da sized up equivalent of a .9 mm (if she were like me XD)… Hey, he’s a big bot, he can take it.
So when picking a mate, the Mashina feel out the woman’s APHEL and say “match” or “no match”? Interesting. Would a Mashina ever say to one another, “Hey, I felt this one girl’s APHEL, and I think you and her would make a great match.”?
This is all so fascinating! This comic’s universe is a frequent daydream spot I visit, so these tid-bits we’re getting in the comments section are great.
When did six-eyes have a chance to check out her APHEL? Was he part of the human grab when they first met Lyron?
Nekohitori: the probability of anyone being a match is cosmically random, so males won’t know who their ‘life-mate-to-be’ will be until they actually get within a certain radius of them. When they finally see them, they make the choice instantly and decide then whether they will pursue or relent. A Mashina will not know who will be good for whom else, it’s a roll of the dice. Human beings are more audio/visual and make their mate choices by sight usually, but Mashina choose their mates and friends through APHEL and chemical signatures. This is a very foreign concept to all other creatures as it seems many choices don’t make sense at all in the beginning.
Aragem: there was a couple of days in between the girls getting captured and Lyron coming back from his first sortie. It happened in that time frame.
Kureo and Sandraman: I hate to fall back on saying that “Some things just aren’t fair in the story” but it’s like the Wild West outside of Paragon City.
If the girl is extremely resentful of the male bot, he’ll do everything in his power to make her happy (short of letting her go) because if they don’t make things work, its a death sentence to the both of them if they’re mated. Usually when Guardias find this out, they choose to “make things work” rather then die, it’s complicated.
Again, the Mashina will only use coedons on females so if the pregnant mom is carrying a female baby, the baby will grow in size too. (I think tho, that they would wait until the children are born before doing this process though. Just to root out any unforeseen tragedy where the baby dies because the nanomachines don’t recognise it for any reason).
” If the girl is extreamly resentfull of the male bot, hell do everything in his power to make her happy (short of letting her go) because if they Dont make things work, its a death sentance if theyve mated.” ?
Can you give me more info about this?
” “If the girl is extreamly resentfull of the male bot, hell do everything in his power to make her happy (short of letting her go) because if they Dont make things work, its a death sentance if theyve mated.” ?

I think that it means that the ‘bot will do the full nine yards– nice dinners, flowers, chocoletes, consulation, happy memories, gifts, friendship, everything– to make sure that they work out. Apparently, getting it on with a female that isn’t gonna be your mate and breaking up is the death sentence; kinda like abstitance (spelling?), except the marraige ceremony is never done. So, yeah, make it work or you get killed for the waste of time and epic love fail.
yeah, but why do it lead to death? Do they heve to be nearby each other or have sex regularly or what?
Sandraman: I’m increasingly worried that you might be offended by the answers as This story can get very “adultish” at times..
Keep in mind, the mashina are alot like the Greek Gods and Godesses who were on a diffrent level then mortals, but often messed with humans out of bordom, curiosity, vengence.. simply because they could. Makeing a Guardia from a human comes at a huge price however..
Kurieo and sandraman: A male mashina can only choose one female in his immortal lifetime, if he chooses to evolve via guardia the encounter ends in consumation. the sexual bonding part that mashina do with females its largly to bring 2 halves of a system back together to maintain a type of homeostasis through data shareing. Basicly, a male mashina willingly becomes symbiotic to the female, by giving up some of his core functionality (he installs it into her), along with his nanomachines witch serve as the foundation for her own system and alt mode. With guardia and mashina both symbiotic to eatchother (one cannot live without the other) This species becomes the only true monogamus species on the planet.
basicly, In laymens terms (and without this sounding like a bad hentai story) If the male and female dont make love on a regular basis they will die. Put aside the idea that mashina sex is like human sex, or sargon sex, its actually much more complicated then that. But paired males and females have about 96 hours before they kick the bucket from not shareing data. 96 hours is a typicle awake cycle before a mashina needs to recharge but this is also the time limit a couple have away from eatchother.
With this said, very bored, very ballsey, very amourus mashina will risk death to win the heart of a human they know is their match. Its hard to convince women who’s religion paints mashina as killer demons though. Culture shock ensues.. as for kureos explanation, it’s very much like an arranged marrage that lasts forever. because males can only choose one woman their whole lifetime, they have to be very carefull and feel out the situation or he could wind up killing them both.
Well, man, that sucks. Everyone knows how fickle women are. ^_<
I… don’t know about anyone else, but I’d personally rather die than face the person who’d just raped me. I’d have problems just letting anyone touch me after that, but to face the guy again and in a sexual context even?
That’s just fucked up. That’s really, really fucked up.
Shirid: To go back to the original online reader’s expression here:
“Don’t like it, don’t read it”
Shirid: You might say that you’d rather die, and I’d like to think that I’d do the same, but unless we’re in that sort of situation, we don’t really know how we’re going to act. And like it or not, we humans have a tendency to do just about anything it takes to survive.
That said, it definitely wouldn’t hurt for old six-eyes to try and get to know his “chosen” and woo her before turning her into a Guardia. There will be a lot less headaches in the long run, I’m sure.
And is it just me, or is the whole kidnapping and trying to keep a girl happy and have her fall in love with you feel very “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”-ish?
Yeah, inside my lives a little feminist who scream that all rapists should be neutered. >C .
Some of the girls will certainly die, (remembering all the religions and martyr stories)
But most probably will accept things(even if not very pleased about it) , especially when they can see it from the mashinas point of view.
There are a lot of webcomics out there that are more offensive than this. If the content offends you, don’t read it.
There are a lot of history of bride kidnapping (where a woman is kidnapped to become her kidnapper’s bride) happens frequently in history and in fact it still happens today in third world countries.
Secondly, we’re seeing three sides to this story. One from a Gaurdia who likes it, one who is indifferent, and two newbies who are terrified. So we are seeing three different opinions to the subject and if Lyron has a part, we’ll see his views on it as well. The comic artist is not supporting kidnapping women to force into sex or force into marriage. Just as Stephen King writes his books, he’s not supporting murder, sexual assault, etc. They are just writing a story.
This force marriage or mating thing is just one part of a bigger story being told.
But back to the basics, if you don’t like it, don’t read it.
With regards to all this “rape is horribad” stuff, just remeber, nobody has done anything yet. I’m quite confident that it won’t take that route anyway. All that’s been put forth so far are hypothetical situations, and argueing hypotheticals without a common answer it as useful as yelling at a wall.
I do have a question regarding the aging process that was mentioned above. I believe it was stated that if an adolescent human (or younger) is made into a Proto-Guardia, they will still grow up at what I assume would be the average human rate. So then, once they reach maturity and become paired (which is what I assume changes them from a Proto-Guardia to a full fleged Guardia), does their aging process stop, or would they still carry out an average natural human lifespan? In all seriousness, it would totaly suck to be a reletively immortal machine creature that has the choice of being bored forever, or having a several decades to a century’s worth of “super-happy-fun-time” and then dieing…
Aragem is quite right. These pages merely reflect different cultures and mindsets. It serves to help compare Mashina and Jotun races generally. Warts and all.
Jotun are generally social to organics, but circumstances have forced them to become more aggresive (ie; their conflict with the Norns). Mashina are aloof, circumstances have compelled them to become more social (ie; their relationship with the Sargons).
The Jotun have no idea that robot girls can exist. The Mashina not only know they can, but have been doing it for years.
As I understand it, once a girl becomes Guardia’d, she gets the same life span her boyfriend has, all going well. That is to say, infinite mileage on the clock. ^-^
In all honesty, while the comic can get graphic, I doubt Ratbat’s gonna draw someone getting raped.
And the whole being kidnapped and falling in love with your captor thing happens so often there’s a term for it: Stockholm Syndrome. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but if you look at history it’s not actually anything new. It was pretty common with one country conquering the other. They’d kill all the men and take the women as hostages/wives.
Jirune: O.o this page is blowing up. your ageing process stops as if chisseled in stone. Everything that you were at the age of 16 or 19 ect, you have forever. if you try to cut your hair, it will allways grow back to the same length it was on the day your mate changed you. As you might guess, This could be a huge problem if you were changed at age 12 (because you stay age 12 forever) And it brings up that problem in “interveiw with the vampire” when Luis turned a small girl named ‘claudia” into a vampire. she was forever traped in a little girls body eventhough she was hundreds of years old. The actual story doesnt showcase a regular guardia more then 40 years old because the Guardia legend only came into fruition about 50 years ago in the story. This means that the only Guardia old enough to be bored are the “Hosts” who were the origional 16 (this will be talked about later) and they arent as bored as you might think given world events.
with that said, there may come a time when couples may have to be killed to be layed to rest together, but thats waay outside of the storys timeline.
Nekohitori: seven brides? is that a novel?
How fast does it take for the hair to grow back? And, I know this is kind of silly, but I keep thinking, “man, if I were in their shoes, I’d hope to have a chance to shave before I’m Guardia-ized so I won’t have to worry about that ever again.”
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a musical about these brothers who live in a mountain cabin, and they take a fancy to some girls in a nearby town. Not being the brightest crayons in the box, they kidnap the girls and have them live with them until everyone falls in love with each other. I saw it a long time ago, and this reminded me of it.

Ummm.
Im sorry if i have made you think, that i dont like this comic.
Although there is some feminist part of me that is offendet, the Art, Story and all thought set behind it make easily up and beyond it.
(So The feminist may scream all it want and NO one cares.)
I just dislike writing in english so i try to make my comments as short as possible, while still make my self understod and get answers to my questions.
So you have my apology.
Though largely irrelevant now becuase my question was answered in (…what should I call you? Your username of Edenworld Saga? I’ll go with Eden) Eden’s latest post, it still bothers me. I don’t know if my last post was understood correctly, so I allow me to clearify my meaning.
I meant my “totally suck to choose between being immortal or have a short time of fun and dieing” comment in the assumption that full Guardia are not immortal like their mate, thusly limiting their mate’s life-span due to the forced symbiosys. This was answered in the way I was really hoping it would be…
Man… the more I learn about Edenworld, the more I totally love it!
P.S. Can’t wait for the return of Panchun!
Jirune: if you get turned into a guardia, your effectively a type of mecha so you become an immortal for as long as you remain symbiotic to your mate. this is largly because nanomachines do not posess a hayflick limit : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayflick_limit they arent programed to be destroyed unless they are used and the male allways supplys more.
Heh. I love it how you use actual genetic terminology to support your ideas. It kind of adds a sense of realism and credibility to everyting.
Now I’m tempted to ask you if they have to worry about potential genetic mutation due to the lack of the Hayflick limit but I get the feeling that such things aren’t really a problem for mecha. On the other hand, they seem to essentially be metal based organisms, so the possibility of nanite error exists. But they would also, presumably, have a greater ability to correct any errors than other species would have…
Dammit, I just went in a circle… I’m tempted to ask for a really in depth Wiki about all this, but I know that would be WAY too much work, so I’ll just stick with debating the finer mechanics with myself.
But you can lay of the realitsm too: The best part of fantasy stories is being able to make something cool, briefly explain it, and after that, just slap your hands on the table and say “It’s because I say so!”
@Kurieo: True, but I’m very tired of the “Cause I say so!” reasoning, without even trying to give a reason. ANY reason is better than copping out.
