anime: Makenai is a homage to Gundam designs. To a greater extent, this whole comic is a homage to all the mecha I’ve enjoyed throught the years. Since old mecha tend to be forgotten often, I attempt to resurrect things I’ve seen and give them an organic twist, but I think they make great background people for the mashine race. Chances are if you’ve seen a mecha in this comic that resembles a mech you’ve seen somewhere else, it’s supposed to be a sentient version of that robot. Of course some designs I do make up on the fly, so if they look like crap then forgive me. The original mecha charecters were the results of several revisions and I combined elements I liked without trying to be overly cool or original. I wanted my heros to be sort of ‘average Joe robos”, and they had to be easy enough to redraw over and over again.

Aragem: The blood of mashina and jotun is quite toxic to living things. The Norns feared it for good reason: it kills. But on EW the geniouses found out that if they took some of the nano colony out of a male that had no mate, they could spin it through anouther machine and strip it of its base code. In doing so you eliminate all the dangerous propertys it carrys and then you can repurpose that “Coedons” stuff into other living things to make them grow to a larger scale like plants, fish, people.
its better to use the blood of a single male or single guardia because its less complicated to strip the attackers out. If you dont do a good job, the Coedons come with a slight risk of death your putting them on.
The Blood consists of 3 types: Attackers, Assymilators, Assemblers. the attackers are responsible for the toxticity because they actively seek out foreighn bodies to destroy. if thos foreighn bodies just so happen to be your own blood cells or lung cells then your toast. Mashina or Jotun must actively find the “correct” girl – simular genetic composition, so these attackers will recognise her body as freindly.
anyway.. its kind of complicated.. maybe too much for a webcomic.

Tia and have always been into Transformers. I’ve seen a bit of Gundam, Evangalion, Macross, and other giant mecha shows, but I prefer the giant mechs that have their own intelligence and aren’t just weapons for war.
