I’m getting pretty excited to do the next scene, so I condensed the diologue of this scene into one final page. Knowing that I’ve made this mistake before in early books, I tried to make the actual panels as visible as I could (although I don’t recomend this for other comic creators).
Holy is a very busy person. In the story he’s got an important meeting to attend to. (He’s gotta go explain to the Sargons why a couple of Mashinas caused a fight in Dalmuhd Aveh..not fun!) Lyron gets pushed along by Jet, and Holy and Makenai contemplate what’s up with the failed test. Sargasso is an important side character that hasn’t been introduced yet – he’s a Sargon like Squibb .
Optics: Mashina use the word optics or eyes interchangeably. The actual optics are diffrent from mashina to Jotun but they are usually crystaline and fixed except for a focal node inside. This node functions like pupils do for humans but as you might have known, its far better then the human eye and it glows with its own light. As far as design is concerned, most of the mecha have eyes that look like LED displays. While I draw them mostly solid white and pupiless, in actual detail, there is a faint pupil pattern like on this close up of Makenai’s face.

I really like the optic X)
Sounds like those robots don’t like different robots.. (machina) which is sad, since they captured and brought Lyron there.
That’s equivalent to me going and getting an ants nest, and bringing it into my house and going.. “Well shit I hate ants”
Core: Lyron is just unfortunate in the fact that he carries some physical similarities to the Mashina’s sworn enemies. I dont think they’d act this way toward Lyron’s brothers though.
alucardy: orly?
I like how the optics were explained. And as for how Lyron being treated, I think the mashina are just erring on the side of caution. If he’s a devil, then he’s where they can keep an eye on him. If not, then no harm done.
Is it just me, or does it look like Holy is wearing a pair of platform heals in panel three? *hides from mashina-wrath*
They’re heels. It’s a vertically challenged person thing… <,< *steals pope hat and runs*
N.H.&giri: Heels like that on giant robots is nothing new, almost, if not common these days. I’m actually tempted to look through a big old list o’ mecha and see how many foot designs resemble the many types of shoes people wear.
…Hmm, I wonder how Makenai would look in platform shoes and an afro….
